Bio
Trinity McMahon is an art educator and ceramicist based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, specializing in decorative functional pottery. She earned her BSE in Art Education from Millersville University in May 2026, where she presented her solo exhibition, Living Allegories, at Swift Gallery and was twice selected for the Annual Student Juried Show (2025, 2026).
Following graduation, Trinity was presented as an emerging artist at the Annual Mount Gretna Fine Arts Show. During the summer of 2026, she completed a residency at the Lancaster Creative Factory, continuing to refine her studio practice and expand her community engagement.
Artist Statement
McMahon explores symbolic imagery on functional ceramic vessels as a form of storytelling. Drawing from traditions of fables and folklore, the animal motifs serve as the primary visual language across her work. The illustrations wrap around three-dimensional forms, inviting a sense of discovery. The narratives gradually unfold through handling and use creating an intimate connection between the maker, user and object.
The work is meant to be actively used and cherished, bringing story and ritual into our lived experience.
Process
My studio practice centers on wheel-thrown forms designed for everyday use, combining functional utility with intricate surface design. Through using slip, sgraffito carving, and detailed underglaze painting, illustrations on the surfaces are formed. My work spans both electric and wood firing processes, bringing together atmospheric finish and storytelling in everyday vessels.
